Since 1998 we have given more than 2,100 scholarships to U.S. college students to study abroad in Japan.

We provide mentoring, networking, and study abroad scholarships to undergraduates determined to build a Japan-related career.

Our scholars want to build a Japan-related career. Take Jeremy, for example, who studied at Kanazawa University in 2017-2018, as an Amway-Bridging Scholar. A few months ago he shared good news with us: he is one significant step closer to achieving his goal of becoming a foreign service officer having just been selected as a Rangel Graduate Fellow! Jeremy says of his Bridging Scholarship:

“The reason I was able to fulfill my dream is because of people like you who motivated and helped me. I am grateful for all that you’ve done for me.”

The Bridging Foundation accomplishes its mission by:

  • Giving scholarships to U.S. undergraduates to study abroad in Japan for a semester or academic-year
  • Offering in-depth virtual programming on Japan-related topics to U.S. undergraduates and the larger Bridging community
  • Recruiting a diverse cross-section of students, especially traditionally underrepresented students
  • Strengthening U.S.-Japan relationship through fostering students’ global leadership and cross-cultural communication skills
  • Promoting a pipeline for next generation global workforce, honing scholars’ intercultural skills
  • Cultivating student mentors in academia, business, and public life
  • Increasing scholars’ long-term engagement in Japan as “ambassadors” to the global society
  • Improving Japanese language skills, and, once study abroad in Japan resumes, acclimating to Japanese culture, and assisting Japanese students and host families learn/improve English

  • Please consider making a donation and supporting future leaders of the U.S.-Japan relationship.
